One thing that impressed me very much about the younger generation in Afghanistan, at least from what I’ve seen so far, is that they are so eager to learn, and they strive for success. Even with the lack, and low standard of education these kids try to gain as much as they can. They are incredibly intelligent. In North America where education system is absolutely amazing, most kids will do only what they have to in order to get to the next level. Most are not passionate. I believe if you give the same opportunities to these Afghan youth who are so hungry for knowledge, who knows how far they can take it. The sky is the limit. I noticed that some Afghan youth in Vanouver would find a minimum wage job, and hang out with friends all day. Some are forced to get a job quickly and settle down. The reason for this is their parents are afraid they might end up falling in love with a non-Afghan. I find this absurd. They keep them away from a successful future for this reason. My parents told my brothers and I that we shouldn’t even think of settling down until we complete our education. By that time we will be wise enough to make a good decision whoever we decide to spend our life with. Well my dad says, "Who needs to get married these days?!" lol. Right now I agree with him...maybe that will change one day. hmmm. Not anytime soon though.
Concert
Today I left Kabul. I will be having a concert in Amsterdam along with Obaid Juenda and Qader Eshparie. Even though I’ll only be gone for 5 days, I seem to already miss my co-workers, family and friends in Kabul. It’s the strangest feeling. I have been taking care of my friend Victoria’s six month old kitten, Nobles, while she’s away on holidays in England, and now that he finally got used to me, I left also. I’m so worried about him. I have my own cat who is 15 years old now, and haven’t left him unless it’s with my mom, and brothers. They love him just as much as I do. The reason I’m worried about Nobles is I noticed most people in Afghanistan don’t appreciate pets, and animals as much. I don’t think they truly realize yet how valuable a pet can be, and how happy they make you feel. Growing up, every time I had any kind of trouble come my way, as soon as I saw my cat all the problems just vanished like magic, and I was smiling again. You just can’t help but smile when you see that face. The other day we were recording a promo for “Afghan Talent” on a mountain with a view of Kabul city, and I saw the most beautiful dogs just standing there homeless. I know that some people in Afghanistan barely have enough to feed themselves, and their families, but I would personally have less kids, and mix in a few pets. My mom says if you want to raise a caring, generous, and kind hearted child simply get a pet.

Just like so many other Afghans, I too have a story. We had to flea Afghanistan (my family and I) when I was just a child. We left everything behind just to stay alive because at that moment the only thing that matters is your life. Although I was only 5 years old, I seem to remember a lot about Afghanistan. This is my first blog, so it should include a bit of a preview from the past. I grew up in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, and am a Canadian citizen…definitely can’t complain about that, but my heart was always in Kabul. The rest of my family seemed to accept their new life in Canada, and I didn’t mind it either, but my father and I were really eager to come back one day. Three years ago my father got his chance to come back when he heard that the Canadian forces would be based in Kandahar. He quickly jumped to the opportunity, and is now with them for three years and counting.
I finally got my chance early this year when I got a phone call from a brand new TV station here in Kabul. At first my parents were hesitant, but I’ve been waiting for this my whole life, so I told them this is my decision, and they should respect it. It was the wisest decision I’ve ever made lol. It was perfect because I just finished a program in Broadcast Journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. I was planning on applying t Canadian TV stations, and then I get a call…from Kabul.
I was eagerly counting the days to when I would finally arive, and now I am here in Kabul jan. There are so many things I have to share with you all. I’m completely amazed at what I see here. Every day I will be writing about my experiences, and the reason I started this blog is because every day is just so interesting here. Sorry guys this is my longest blog since it's the first one as I mentioned before lol.
